Locals' Tips

  • Altitude Sickness --  The "Mile high" Denver Airport, is over 5280' above sea level.  You need to start drinking extra water at the airport.  Ginger's tip-- bring an EMPTY water bottle in your carryon luggage.  Fill it at the airport and drink at least 8oz/hour for the first 2 hours in CO. (Also drink some on the plane.)  Copper Mountain Resort is at 9712'.  Be sure to drink plenty of water and take headache medicine at the first sign of a headache.  For more info see   http://www.coppercolorado.com/aboutus/highalpinetips/index.htm

  • Sunscreen --  due to the altitude and the snow, it is easy to get sunburn.
  • Ski in/out  --  The Village at Copper has many buildings, all within a short walk to the chairlift.  If you want close to the chairlifts and the confernce building,  ask for a room in Copper One Lodge (gold price range).   The Mill Club (gold) and the Mountain Plaza (silver) are also close.
  • Van Shuttle -- Take the van shuttle from the airport so you don't have to worry about driving in the snow.  If you ask, the driver will stop for a bathroom break. See Travel Info for detail.
  •  Airports -- the Vail pass (on Rt 70 between the Eagle airport and Copper) is frequently closed during a big snowstorm.  Denver airport is the safer option.  The Van shuttle also runs more frequently from Denver.
  • Grocery -- There is a mini-grocery at the resort (higher prices of course). A full size grocery store, Safeway,  is located on the free bus -- the Summit Stage. Get on the bus at the bus loop at Passage Point and get off at the last stop, the Frisco Station.  It takes 25 minutes and the buses leave once an hour. Walmart (only some grocery items) is also in the same shopping strip. See www.summitstage.com
